ACC provides a range of benefits to support injured persons, workers, dependants and families affected by accidents covered under the scheme.
The Accident Compensation Corporation provides support through medical assistance, transport costs, loss of earnings compensation, permanent injury assistance, death benefits and other approved benefits under the scheme.
Reasonable medical expenses incurred for first aid, hospital care, physiotherapy and prescriptions may be payable.
Reasonable transport costs for medical treatment and checkups may be payable where advised by a medical practitioner.
Weekly compensation for loss of earnings as a worker is up to 70% of earnings, with a ceiling of $1,000 tala per week. This payment is non-taxable and may be payable for up to 5 years.
ACC may provide an artificial limb or aid where the Board considers it necessary or desirable, including repair and renewal, not exceeding $150,000.
Where treatment or rehabilitation training is not available locally but available outside Samoa, and would substantially benefit the injured person, ACC may pay or contribute to the cost, not exceeding $150,000.
ACC may award a living allowance for the care needs of a person who has suffered as a result of an accident, provided the assistance does not exceed 60% of the minimum wage per week at the time of the accident.
ACC may award a mobility allowance for the mobility needs of a person who has suffered as a result of an accident, not exceeding 60% per week at the time of the accident, subject to the relevant provisions of the Amendment Act 2009.
ACC may provide support to dependants and families in cases where death benefits are payable under the scheme.
A sum of $4,000 is payable by way of funeral grant. ACC determines the person to whom the grant is paid, with preference to any surviving spouse of the deceased.
ACC may pay a lump sum of $20,000 to dependants if the deceased has total dependant(s), or both total and partial dependant(s), at the time of the accident. Where there are only partial dependants, ACC may pay up to $16,000.
Weekly death compensation is payable at 70% of the deceased person’s relevant earnings, not exceeding $1,000 per week, and may be payable for up to 5 years.
Where a deceased worker has died of natural causes and not as a result of an accident covered by the Act, a sum not exceeding $4,000 may be payable in respect of the death.
