Every employer and worker pays a levy of $0.01 sene for every $1.00 of wages. Payment time depends on how often wages are paid.

All payments are made to the ACC Cashier located on Level 5 of ACC House, Apia.

• A worker or employee who suffers personal injury by accident, whether work-related or not.
• A worker or employee who suffers illness caused by a work-related activity or environment.
• Any person, including non-workers, injured by accident involving a specified conveyance in Samoa.

Specified conveyance means a motor vehicle, motorcycle or seagoing vessel propelled by a motor or engine.

• Step 1: Report your injury to your employer, ACC, or the Ministry of Police depending on the accident type.
• Step 2: Get treatment and a medical certificate from a registered medical practitioner.
• Step 3: Contact ACC to ensure your case is registered.

Once received, your claim is registered and given a claim number. ACC may consider:

• Whether there has been an accident under the Act.
• Whether it was a personal injury.
• Whether the injury occurred in Samoa.
• Whether the claim was lodged within the allowed timeframe.
• Whether it is an occupational disease or illness claim.

Most claims are assessed within 5 days. Some claims may take longer if further investigation or additional information is required.

ACC may assist with:

• Reasonably required treatment such as physiotherapy, prescriptions, surgery or medical treatment.
• Rehabilitation aids such as artificial limbs, walking aids, wheelchairs or home ramps.
• Reasonable travel costs to obtain medical treatment.
• Approved overseas treatment when treatment is not available in Samoa.
• Financial compensation depending on eligibility and assessment.

• Weekly payments for loss of salary or wages for eligible workers.
• Payments for permanent impairment depending on medical assessment.
• Care Living Allowance for severe injuries where criteria are met.
• Mobility Allowance for severe mobility, eyesight or mental impairment cases.
• Death lump sum, weekly payments and funeral grants where applicable.

If an employee dies of a natural cause or another cause not covered under the Act, ACC may pay $4,000 as a special payment to family member(s), subject to ACC determination.

You may apply in writing for a review, stating the grounds of your dissatisfaction.

It is an offence under the ACC Act to make a false statement or false claim in relation to obtaining benefits from ACC. Penalties are severe and ACC may prosecute offenders.
